| I do have to say that seeing Chris' helmet IRL, makes LFS becoming more and more a reality since he uses it ingame too. |

Without looking at Kenneth's post, i'll just add this
(More from my point of view i guess)
After 4 days of driving only (and some hours of sleep), here is a report from the practise week.
Both me and kenneth arrived to the track at Sunday night which we both used to set up the team tenths we were
gonna use.
Monday was the first day of driving. I was really excited and a little nervous, as i had never tested any class with
gears before. I didn't really know what to expect of it, only that this kart was a whole shitload faster than the one i drove last year.
I was gonna use a borrowed engine on the first part of the day, as my engine didn't arrive to the track before 14.00 the same day. The owner of this engine was a driver in the same class last year, so he could give me a few useful good advices before the whole thing was gonna blow off.
The first practise heat for Kenneth and me started at 10 am. As my engine was overhauled, i had to take it easy the first couple of minutes. Though however hard i tried to take it easy, it all felt chaotic(in a very nice way though!).
The acceleration was felt quite sick in the first laps, just wonderfull
(Numbers from the kart and engine providers says that this kart does 0 - 100 km/h on 2.7 seconds and 100 - 0 km/h on 2 secs)
kenneth was allready familiar with the kart, and set a very good standard for all the other karts practising this day.
The track record on this track is 39.18 and Kenneth got closer and closer to high 40's with very bad conditions(nearly no grip on the track at all).
Throughout the day, i got more control over the kart and felt more comfortable. I had a pair off very hard tyres, so i couldn't match Kenneth's pace at all(think i had high 42's or sumtin).
On tuesday Kenneth got his rib bone problems back, and he couldn't give 100% on the 1 km long track. However, he stayed on a very good level and pushed the times down to low 40's. Around 1 pm i mounted a new set of softer tyres, which made me also come down to some mid 40's, which i was very happy with.
Wedensday was Kenneth's last day on the track. We both did new pb's on low 40's in the morning untill our tyres were worn out. Kenneth mounted some new and fresh tyres, while i used some old but good ones from last year. It resulted in a 39.78 lap for Kenneth and a 40.07 lap for me, which we were very happy with!
Looking at Kenneth's really fast time, i wanted to mount some new tyres as well. It ended up in nothing tough, as we had lots of old tyres left we could
practise on.
We were standing in a huge tent this time with around 10 other karts. They had a race on the coming saturday, and was gonna prepare for the race at the actual racetrack. Therefore we had to stop the practise at 4 pm.
Kenneth left as well after three successfull days, though me and dad decided to stay another day to increase the consistancy and pace.
While there was around 50 people on the track on Monday to Wedensday, there was nearly no one there at Thursday morning. This allowed us to practise lots more than the past days, and increase the level of my driving. I was hoping for reaching a 39, but the conditions got worse than the past days. However, sometime in the mid summer, we'll be back there ...
After these days, we can't ask for much more. Having Kenneth as a team mate was a huge advantage for me as i could adapt his driving lines and style quite quickly.
I hope we can continue help each other forward like this, as it really gives us possibilities to reach good speed very much faster than we could ever do alone.
EDIT: TEST
test as much as u want! |

1st round of the Norwegian Championship.
aowyeah, what a weekend
My first and Kenneths second race of the season took place at a national karting track. It was a part of the Norwegian Championship and a less imprtant cup. This track was very stressy (780 m) as it had top speeds at around 130 km/h but still very slow corners. Lots of braking and acceleration is the keywords i guess

I arrived at friday evening, and could do one slow practise stint as we had changed the piston in my engine.
It all went ok, and i had a comfortable feeling for the race. kenneth arrived later in the eveing, coming straight
from Sweden.
The next day started really good for me, having the fastest time in the first practise session. Kenneth was third, right behind. The next prac was the same, though Kenneth had the 2nd fastest time now, so it was looking good for the qualifying!
I had a great qual untill lap 3 when the fuel tube othe kart loosened and i got loads of fuel in my face
And it didn't stop there.. In the last lap i was going to overtake a kart who had problems, though we misunderstood each other. It all ended with me driving on the grass, spinning around At the end, i came through al that shit, and could keep on doing my qual. Kenneth made very good laptimes as well, and when the results were clear it looked like this:
Quote: Pos No.
Name Best Time In Lap Best Spd (Km/h) Diff Gap Laps
1 77 Christian Krognes 32.588 7 86.167 KNA Varna
2 28 Kenneth Østvold 32.689 8 85.900 0.101 NMK Elverum
3 4 Trond Raugstad 32.829 5 85.534 0.241 NAF Motorsport Gjesdal
So first starting grid for both of us

I had never done a standing start in a race before, so i was quite nervous for it. Many of our competitors had
driven this class for many years, and knew excactly how to get a perfect start.
It went quite ok imo, allthough the 4th place was 1st into the second corner with me and Kenneth right behind. This guy was very stressed and made a gearing mistake which allowed me to pass him. In the next corner he didn't wanna give up the fight and drove straight into me. Luckily it didn't hurt me at all, only himself
Kenneth passed him as well and we could make up a good pace. I had a little gap to kenneth after this incident, and could keep on in a steady pace. Kenneth on the other side, had lots of pressure from the karts behind and after some good fighting he ended up in 3rd.

Quote: Pos No. Name Laps Total Tm Diff Best Tm In Lap Best Spd (Km/h)
Race 1
1 77 Christian Krognes 15 8:25.877 0.000 32.605 14 86.122 KNA Varna
2 7 Tommy Langrind 15 8:29.048 3.171 32.951 12 85.217 KNA Varna
3 28 Kenneth Østvold 15 8:29.285 3.408 32.761 12 85.712 NMK Elverum
I was more comfortable infront of the 2. heat, as i now knew better how to start properly
As i hoped, i took the start right infront of Tommy who started in second place. As i knewi could make gaps to him if i focused on my own driving, it didn't really matter to have a competitor pushing right behind you. In fact, it helped me to achieve better laptimes this time. Kenneth struggled with a wrong setup on his kart during the heat, which made him understeer. He still managed to hold 6th place which gave him 4th position on the starting grid in the finale.

5 3 Glenn Larsen 15 8:30.929 6.807 32.885 13 85.388 N, NMK
6 28 Kenneth Østvold 15 8:31.133 7.011 32.848 13 85.485 N, NMK Elverum
The finales grid was like this:
1. Chris
2. Tommy Langrind
3. Trond raugstad
4. Kenneth

I had the best start i've ever done this heat, though kenneth even did a (much) better one
From 4th position he went straight up to 2nd position behind me. This time we both did 110% without fighting with each other, from the start and quickly made up a gap to the field behind us.

As i saw Kenneth was still right behind me after 10/20 laps, i was quite stressed up. Somehow i found back the old good rythm and finally got a little gap to teh bastard. The perfect start for the season of Olrud Mobil 1 Racing Junior team was a fact!
Results:
Quote: Pos No.
Name Laps Total Tm Diff Best Tm In Lap Best Spd (Km/h)
1 77 Christian Krognes 20 11:04.025 32.509 16 86.376 N, KNA Varna
2 28 Kenneth Østvold 20 11:07.437 3.412 32.683 16 85.916 N, NMK
3 7 Tommy Langrind 20 11:10.800 6.775 32.848 16 85.485 N, KNA Varna
After a very successfull weekend, beating Anders Krohns old lap record with 6 tenths, we had both demonstrated for ourself (imo) that this could be a very interesting and entertaining season!
Therefore, we are looking very much forward to the next race, which will be the second round of the Norwegian Championship. |
